PostSubject: Found an Earth Bound Promo Cart online. (Probably a fake, but buying anyway...)   Fri Sep 04, 2009 7:10 pm

I found an Earth bound NES cart online, I know it's most likely a fake because it actually has a label, is only $5, and only afew copies are said to exist, but I'd like to have it anyway, so I'm buying it.

Looks like it's fake because no existing copies have ever been reported to have labels, and no one in their right mind would sell an official Earth Bound promo cart for $5 when all other copies have been sold for $1000, but I'm buying it anyways because it's cheap and looks nice.
Probably won't even play because there's no such thing an NES Flash Cart that I know of, but I'd like to have it anyway.

I'm weird like that...

I'd do the same, and it's no real loss on your end anyways so it's always nice to have something obscure, even if it's fake.

Yeah, I figure for $5 I can't lose...

Even if it is a fake, paying $5 for and actual hard copy is a good investment in my opinion.

Heh, nice job. I'd pay that for any MOTHER game, real or fake, any day. Can we have pics? I'm interested to see what this label is like. I know of most of the pirated labels and how Nintendo labels real promo carts, so even if you know it's fake I'd like to see which version.

I've already decided to go for it, but I'm waiting until the last minute of the auction, so I can outbid the other guys and they'll have no chance to outbid me.

Also, by doing it that way, I can ensure that I won't have to pay through the nose for it.
Barely anyone's bid on it so far, and if I stay out of it for now then I won't have to get into a wrestling match with the other bidders as the cost climbs steadily.

Since it's highly unlikely that this is the genuine article, I don't want to pay much for it, so I'm not going to bid until the very last second.

That label appears to be the NES Reproductions version as opposed to the cheap home bootlegger version with Emilio's artwork on it (ironically from EarthBound for the SNES XD) so you probably won't have to worry about the Pirated screen appearing. That glitch can be a game ender on some of those, but you should be good...

Wow, you certainly know your stuff!

Thanks!

EDIT: LOL the seller who's selling the copy of Earth Bound I'm looking at is also selling an English copy of FFIII & Dragon Quest V, so yeah...it's fake. Seems like e specializes in this stuff.

LOL yeah, nevermind...

I just checked on it and the bidding has taken the price up to $64.50 already, and if I were willing to spend that much money I'd spend a bit more and get an official copy of EarthBound for SNES.

I'm not paying $64.50 for a cheap hacked NES cart with EarthBound Zero on it, and I feel sorry for the poor fools that were willing to bid over $25 on that cheap forgery.

Can they seriously believe that it's a genuine copy? I assume they must if they're willing to pay that much for it...
And there's still 11 hours left. I'm going to keep watching just to see how high the ending bid is.
I'll bet you it exceeds $100.

EDIT: I didn't get to see what the ending price was, but last I saw it climbed to $77!

eBay can be a risky business, friend.
