We all know there are three Final Fantasy camps, and each of them are rather passionate about their camp they are from.

Camp 1: The classic camp, the ones who think anything before VII. is the apex of the series, and that VII turned it all into crappy sci-fi from there on.
Camp 2: The new camp, they love VII and think it's the apex of the series, and that the VI camp members are a bunch of people reveling in days past. They will give their lives to defend VII.
Camp 3: The reasonable camp, they think all (or most) of the FF games are good in their own special ways.

Oh yeah, I am in Camp 3, since I think VI and VII are about equal, but those are the only ones I've played. V is coming in the mail this week.

Camp 4: FFIX and V were the best.

Camp 5: VII was overrated, IX and V were best, XI is where the series truly started to lose it's edge outside of Spin-offs.

1. VII wasn't bad... just not "OMFG GREETEST GAEM EVEER!". The 3D looks terrible (I'll forgive it for being a PS1 game, although, any Crash Bandicoot game or Spyro games looked MUCH better), the music is average (the only song I really liked was J.E.N.O.V.A and I only like the first 1 1/2 minute of One Winged Angel), I got tired of Cloud's emo-ness halfway through the game ("Your sadness is just the same as my sadness"), and I had a lot more fun playing Heavy Rain (No exaggeration. I had a fuckton of fun playing watching Heavy Rain). However, the game did have its moments (Cloud crossdressing, etc).

Camp 3. I haven't beaten any, but I've enjoyed what I've played in III, IV, and XII, not counting the Ivalice spinoffs. I also would like to sometime get some of the other games from both halves of the series.

Yeah, I like VII too, it's a very good game, it's just not special for that though. They had a great battle system, and a pretty good story, and for some reason people idolize it to no end. Also, some of the music tracks are ear worms, I really wish they had like 5 battle themes, the normal battle theme gets burned into my SOUL!

Camp Three. Although I wouldn't say I'm reasonable with my love of VI.

This is how I feel about VII, too. I don't hate it or anything, but I just... didn't enjoy it as much as the rest of the series, personally. I love some of the music (especially Reunion and all of Jenova's themes) and some of the summon/monster designs were cool, but the game definitely doesn't live up to the hype. It's nice to see others who agree. XD

I'm in Camp 3 myself because I'm all over the place with my favourites from Final Fantasy. My favourite overall is IX by far, but I also loved IV, VI, and XII. The only thing I liked about VIII was Laguna. I didn't have high hopes for XII because a lot of my friends didn't like it, but when I played it myself I actually grew to enjoy it quite a bit. I loved the idea of the mark hunts and how you could escape from the storyline for extended amounts of time to explore, find enemies, and so on. I loved a lot of the characters, too, with Ashe and Larsa being my favourites. :> IX remains my favourite for the incredible characterisation, especially with Kuja. I love Kefka for his sheer insanity and the fact that he actually succeeded in destroying the world, but Kuja ended up being incredibly sympathetic once you dissected his character.

I guess camp 1.

I've only really played I-VI and most of VII

II is still my fave probably. I don't care that most people hate it.

I don't fall into any of those, really...

I have a different opinion on all the FF games.

FFI: Decent classic RPG, but I find the original NES Version nearly unplayable thanks to how long everything takes in battle.

FFII: It was okay, didn't like it, but didn't hate it either. Worth playing at least once for the story.

FFIII: Never finished it, but based on what I played it was a good game, have to go back and finish it someday.

FFIV: My 2nd favorite FF game ever! I love this game so much that I've bought it for SNES, PSone, GBA, DS, and if I have the money, I'll probably end up getting the PSP Version as well!

FFV: Never played it myself, but watched Scrapper play it, looks fun, will likely play it myself someday.

FFVI: Played it briefly on PSone, decided to stop and play GBA Version, haven't had time to track down GBA Version as of yet. Played up to the part where you raft down a river and fight an Octopus. Story was very good so far, will pick back up on eventually.

FFVII: MASSIVELY overrated game with unlikeable protagonist, convoluted story, and 3D graphics that are so ugly that I wish SE had just stuck with 2D. I used to like this game, but the fanboys made me hate it. This is by no means the best entry in the series, and even when I didn't hate it I still rated it as one of the lesser entries. I don't understand at all what makes people go crazy for this title in particular when other entries have more likable characters, story that isn't so convoluted that by the end of the game you have only the vaguest idea of what actually happened thanks to a retarded plot element that makes everyone's memories fake! Okay, so how do we know which of their memories aren't fake?! Hell, how do we know that they even beat Sephiroth at all and that it wasn't all just Genova Cells fucking with their heads and they're actually lying on the ground passed out while Sephiroth stands victorious as they dream about their pretend victory that Genova implanted them with?!
And as if this story wasn't hopelessly convoluted on it's own, throw Before Crisis, Crisis Core, Advent Children, and Dirge of Cerberus into the mix, then prepare to be so hopelessly lost that you find yourself watching LOST Season 3 in search of more understandable story.

FFVIII: Not crazy about the GF system, but I really liked the story. Squall starts of as an unlikeable douche like Cloud, but actually evolves into a likable character.

FFIX: My favorite game in the series. Loved the plot, loved the characters, loved the story, loved everything.

FFX: It's alright, don't love it, don't hate it.

FFXI: Never played it because it's a stupid Pay to Play MMO. Should have just been called "Final Fantasy Online" IMO.

FFXII: Really liked the story, but this game is more like a KoTOR ripoff than a traditional FF game.

FFXIII: Recycle plot elements/characters from FFVII, VIII, & X and what do you get? Why FFXIII of course! This is what happens when you piss off your series creator and make him leave, you end up making games that either ripoff other successful RPGs or you recycle stuff from older successful entries in the series and hope that it in turn ends up a success. Square Enix either needs to hire Sakaguchi do direct future titles or just stop making games of the series altogether and focus on making games like Dragon Quest that they don't suck at making on their own.

FFXIV: Never played because it's a stupid Pay to Play MMO. Shoiuld have been called "Final Fantasy Online 2" IMO.

So, there you have it, I don't really fit in any of those camps.
