| Seriously...i know wii came first, but is this now becoming a giant One-Upsmanship contest for a young audience of video gaming?
and good games be damned to the point that this is becoming a casual gaming society. |

| What I believe, and what other Lumine Haller believe, is the birdman fallacy. This was written awhile ago, and I think it holds surprisingly true today. It's a good read: http://malstrom.50webs.com/birdman.html Essentially, Nintendo caters to a new and not yet tapped audience, the "casuals". So, they give them games, and establish consumer loyalty. As expected, it's a huge success. So, Microsoft and Sony fall into the trap: the birdman fallacy. It's no coincidence that at the dawn of Microsoft's and Sony's 'Wii' clones, Nintendo starts churning out games for the "hardcore"--Donkey Kong, Golden Sun, Goldeneye, Kirby's Epic Yarn, so on and so forth. It'll be fun to see what happens next. I'm curious! While shooters dominate the market right now, they won't forever, so saying "gaming is going down the drain" isn't correct--gaming's changing, that's for sure. For the shooters, this is the golden age, just as the golden age for RPGs has passed. I'm gonna wait it out. _________________ |

| Nintendo is usually ahead of the game (no pun intended) with this stuff. The others tag along eventually, but the vein has run dry, and you find a bunch of big heavy equipment in the clearance bin at Toys R' Us. _________________ "My country, right or wrong...when right to be kept right; when wrong to be put right." ~Carl Schurz (R-MO) |

| That was a good read. It was all stuff I knew but it was cool to see it all layed out like that. |

Trivial/Shovelware games always existed Games has always been catered towards children and their families NOTHING is different. |

| @Curimuch: Yes! I always disliked the Casual vs. Hardcore with gaming, even since they implemented it into Smash bros. The whole No item and one stage thing was like only using 50% of the whole game... |

| Whenever I do brawl I ALWAYS turn on Items and choose whatever stage I want when it's my turn
if the person disconnected, I instantly assume they're a Tourneyfag
But the point is moreso that the games nintendo made at the start of the Wii catered more to other shovelware eaters to build an audience who'd try all of them |

| I don't like items in brawl. Makes it rely too much on luck, and final smashes are pretty broken. Meh. |

| ^ I also don't reeeeally like items too much, and Smash Balls are incredibly imbalanced (IE, Sonic's Final Smash is amazing while Jigglypuff's is situational). It's different strokes for different folks. _________________ |

| I like items but I wasn't a fan of smash balls, it's like how i wasn't a fan of power smashes in power tennis. |
