That's why I hate Firmware Updates... On paper, they sound like a good idea, the ability to patch a system's software to improve performance and add new features, but it ultimately ends in a never-ending tug of war between Hackers & the company that made the hardware.
Furthermore, as you said, anti-piracy measure taken after the system has already been cracked is a fool's errand that just only makes the experience less enjoyable to the folks who haven't hacked their consoles.
It's so stupid too, Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo update their firmware, and Homebrew gets blocked for anywhere from 12 hours to 2 weeks tops before the Hackers just make a patch that bypasses the new Firmware's lockout protocols.
It's like, just give up already!!! You can't stop the pirates, and it's not like there are so many pirates that you're going to go bankrupt from it.
Just look at the Wii & DS, 2 of the easiest consoles to hack this generation, yet both of them are dominating! So clearly the amount of gamers who buy games vastly outnumber those who steal them, and the only ones you're punishing are the honest gamers who actually buy your games! But they'll never learn, and they'll never stop...
