http://www.siliconera.com/2010/07/13/will-the-last-story-be-sakaguchis-last-title/

For those of you who don't already know, Hironobu Sakaguchi is the creator of the Final Fantasy series, and up until FFIX, Sakaguchi was both the Storyboard Director and and Script writer for all the FF games.

Unfortunately, due to "creative differences" (i.e. Square Enix constantly hounding Sakaguchi to churn out more FF games eventhough he wanted to take a break from the series) in 2004 Sakaguchi left SE to form Mistwalker Studios. (Blue Dragon/Lost Odyssey)

Sakaguchi's lastest game is titled "The Last Story" (sound familiar?) and it's coming out for the Wii in Japan sometime this year.
However, unlike Sakaguchi's previous brain child Final Fantasy, The Last Story won't have 10+ installments and numerous spinoffs. In fact, Sakaguchi is saying that once he completes The Last Story, he's strongly considering retirement from game development.

Sakaguchi says that the whole team is really going all out on The Last Story to make it the best game it possibly can be.

Seems like "The Last Story" was meant to be more than just an obvious parallel to "Final Fantasy" and this time be what Sakaguchi thought Final Fantasy was going to be back in the dark days of Square.
I'll be sad to see him go, but at least he's going out with style.

He had a great run.

I don't blame him.

I'm a little sad... but like everyone else said, he's going out in style! If he's retiring, then why not retire after one big finale for us all to remember? I have all the more reason to get The Last Story now!

Yeah, think about if Miyamoto had made Galaxy 2 for his finale. We'd be getting a truly spectacular game. Sad

(Not that Miyamoto's games aren't ALWAYS spectacular though! Smile )

Except for Wii Music.

It's really sad.
It'll be sad to see him go. Sad
....That's IF he desides to leave.

He decided to leave Square, he'll decide to leave his career altogether. I don't want to hear this, but I gotta accept it.
